Fluxus Art Projects, Frieze London and the Comité Professionnel des Galeries d’Art are delighted to announce that Stéphanie Saadé and her gallery Marfa’ are the winners of the second FLUXUS – CPGA Prize, awarded on Thursday October 10 in London.
Stéphanie Saadé was born in 1983 in Lebanon. Saadé lives and works between Beirut and Paris. She graduated in Fine Arts from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Paris and China Academy of Arts, Hangzhou. She was an artist in residency at Jan van Eyck Academie, Maastricht (2014-15) and Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris (2015). In 2023 she was selected for Centre Pompidou’s residency Accélérations curated by Michel Gauthier and supported by BNP Paribas Private Banking. The works produced were acquired and exhibited by Centre Pompidou.
Saadé’s work has been presented in solo exhibitions at Kunsthaus Centre d’art Pasquart, Biel; Museum van Loon, Amsterdam; Parc Saint Léger, Pougues-les-Eaux, Maison Salvan, Labège and in a duo show at Marres, Maastricht. She featured recently in group exhibitions at Centre Pompidou, Paris; Punta Della Dogana, Venice; Sharjah Biennal 13; Fondation Pernod Ricard, Paris; Moca Toronto; MUCEM, Marseille; MAXXI, Rome; MuHKA, Antwerp; Jameel Art Center, Dubai; Hessel Museum, New York; Mosaic Rooms, London; Beirut Art Center.
Marfa’ works with local and regional artists to produce and present idea-based projects that engage with Beirut’s diverse contemporary art scene.
Marfa’ Projects was founded by Joumana Asseily in 2015 and builds on her deep links with the city’s independent non-profit art scene. The gallery is located in two garages in the Marfa’ neighborhood, which means port in Arabic. Beirut’s port has long been one of the foundations of the city’s economic life, a key transit point for goods and information between Lebanon and the world.
After the attack in 2020, the gallery was destroyed. In 2021, the gallery reopened with a group show entitled Water, featuring all the gallery’s artists.
“We pursue our beliefs and our mission to support local artists to build links globally, through our participation in major art fairs and our collaborations with fellow galleries and institutions, as well as to provide a platform in Beirut for the work of international artists.”
