cadet capela
cadet capela is a contemporary art gallery founded in 2018 by Julien Cadet and Mathieu Capela.
The focus of the program has been on internationally emerging and established artists, most of whom practice painting and sculpture. The representation of the younger generation of artists, with academic and non-academic backgrounds, creates an exciting diversity in the exhibition prospectus without classifying. The gallery also likes to support artists who have an off-trail practice.
Initially, the gallery was known for its ever-changing spaces for each exhibition. However, since 2020, the gallery has a permanent space located at 54 rue Chapon in Paris. In 2022, cadet capela opened a second space a few minutes away from the first one, with a much larger volume which reflects the Parisian roots of the gallery and its desire to continue to grow.
Above all, two spaces makes it possible to develop a more flexible and more
responsive program. The artists are now able, from one place to another, to respond, exchange, and meet, to act and react in echoes, inventing new forms and finding the right place to show their works. There is a complementarity between the two spaces and a common desire to pursue the essential work of the gallery: a bold, eclectic and full of surprises program that show unique, emerging and established artists, of all ages and from all countries.
Since 2021, cadet capela has expanded its reach and started participating in art fairs across the United States, Asia, and Europe. This move is a testament to the gallery’s commitment to promoting its artists and their work on a global scale.
