Espace des Femmes
The Galerie des femmes was created in 1981 by Antoinette Fouque, in connection with the éditions des femmes and the librairie des femmes in Paris, whose space it shared until 1992, at 74 rue de Seine. Shortly after its opening, the Editions des Femmes inaugurated a collection of art and art history books. Women artists represent only 5% of museum acquisitions and 1% of exhibitions. It is what motivates A. Fouque to bring into the National Museum of Modern Art, three works of three generations of artists and to initiate a Museum of Women. In 2007, the Gallery takes a new momentum with the opening of the Espace des femmes at 35 rue Jacob in Paris. Since 2008, the creation of women artists is better valued through large public and private exhibitions.
