Galerie Magnin-A
MAGNIN-A is a contemporary art gallery created in 2009 in Paris by André Magnin and directed by Philippe Boutté, recognized experts in modern and contemporary African art. The MAGNIN-A gallery represents established and emerging artists. It works with passion and conviction to promote and distribute artists in the largest international fairs and exhibitions.
An independent curator since the late 1970s, André Magnin began his research on contemporary art in non-Western cultures in 1989 for the historic exhibition “Magiciens de la Terre”, presented at the Centre Georges Pompidou and the Grande Halle de la Villette, of which he was Assistant Curator. He then took over the head of the C.A.A.C.-The Pigozzi Collection, the most important collection of contemporary African art in the world, of which he was artistic director for 20 years, sharing his life between Africa and Europe. Numerous exhibitions have been organized to showcase this collection in prestigious museums, art centers and foundations around the world. In 1996, he met Philippe Boutté who became his closest collaborator.
In the continuity of this adventure, MAGNIN-A is an aesthetic and political project, committed to the defense and promotion of contemporary African artists. Other artists from various backgrounds have since joined them.
