TEMPLON
The gallery was founded in 1966 by Daniel Templon, who was then only 21. It first opened rue Bonaparte, in Saint-Germain-des-Prés in Paris, before moving in 1972 to its current location, rue Beaubourg, in the Marais, close to the Pompidou Center, which opened in 1977. Daniel Templon first gained recognition by exhibiting conceptual and minimal artists such as Carl Andre, Donald Judd, Dan Flavin ou Sol LeWitt. In 1972, Daniel Templon and Catherine Millet co-founded the monthly art magazine ART PRESS.
Over the years, many artists now part of art history have exhibited with the gallery. Among the most famous are the French artists Arman, Ben, Daniel Buren, César, Gérard Garouste, Raymond Hains, Alain Jacquet, Paul Rebeyrolle or Claude Viallat, as well as great American artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Jim Dine, Eric Fischl, Ellsworth Kelly, Willem de Kooning, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg, Julian Schnabel, Richard Serra, Frank Stella or Andy Warhol.
Today Galerie Templon represents a group of international artists. The exhibition program promotes a dialogue between historical or established artists (Anthony Caro, Jim Dine, Joel Shapiro, Claude Viallat), and the experiences of younger artists (Obar Ba, Abdelkader Benchamma, David LaChapelle, Jonathan Meese, Prune Nourry, Chiharu Shiota, Kehinde Wiley).
Galerie Templon has three spaces: two exhibition spaces in Paris (30 rue Beaubourg and 28 rue du Grenier Saint-Lazare) and one in Brussels, Belgium.
